The Division of Public Defender Services is not technically its own bargaining unit. Public Defender employees are still part of the Judicial Branch and covered under its contract. However, for seniority purposes, and grievance purposes, they function somewhat independantly, and the Office of the Chief Public Defender has it's own Human Resources department.
Local 749 represents about 120 employees in the Division of Public Defender Services and the Commission on Child Protection.
