Update for DCJ And Public defenders 2.5% raise and retroactive pay

Sisters and brothers,

The recently ratified contract was submitted and approved by the legislature last week. The judicial branch has stated the approved 2.5 percent increase will begin on May 29, 2026. The retroactive pay back to the pay period including July 1, 2025, will be in the June 11, 2026 Payroll check. 

Local 749 has not had an update from the Division of Criminal Justice or Public Defender services. Once the Union receives the information from the respective Human resources, we will update the website. 

UPDATE: At a recent SEBAC meeting it was stated for the Division of Criminal Justice and Public Defender services pay scales the 2.5% increases and steps wage increase for 2025-2026 will be reflected in the June 12, 2026, paycheck. The new pay scales for 2026-2027 will be reflected in the paycheck on July 10, 2026. Retroactive pay will be in the August 21, 2026, paycheck to include all back pay with the wage increases, steps/top step lump sum and longevity (if eligible). The Union does not control when the employer decides to implement the wage increases. Any questions should be referred to Human resources.
